Colourful History: Textiles of Rajasthan

During the Rajputana, tribes and special castes like – Chhipa and Rangrez were among the first ones to accept Printing as the major. Some of the artefacts crafted by this caste in the 8th and 9th century could be easily found in the museums across the nation. Since that time the Rajasthan and its Textile are known to the world.

Batik
Batik Printing is about 2000 years old art-form that use Wax to create an impression over cold dye fabric. This traditional printing form is widely used in creating fabric and sarees.
Bandhani or Bandhej
Bandhej or Bandhani Print is a different version of Tie-Dye printing. In this Art, the cloth is tied using thread and immersed into the colour bath for soaking. The most popular use of this art is in the making of “Lehria” products for women.
Bagru Prints
Bagru Print is derived from the place of its origin – Bagru Town of Rajasthan. This town is located near Jaipur towards Ajmer City. This art-form is most demanded after Sanganeri Printed goods. Notably, it has Buti and Floral print created through us of Vegetable Colors only.
Sanganeri Prints
Sanganer is the Printed Fabric capital of Rajasthan. This town of Rajasthan is located in the Jaipur District and recognized by the world as the key exporters of Block Printed Textile Products. The major composition of Block Printed and Screen Printed goods from Rajasthan is manufactured in this area. Predominantly, the Floral, Tribal and Animal prints are the majors in the designs of Sanganeri Printed Textiles.
Barmer Prints
Barmer Print is a textile printing art from Western Rajasthan. This form is also known as Ajrakh Print. The major components of this art-form are traditional Geometric and Abstract impressions.
Dabu Prints
Yet another form of Block Printing – The Dabu Print is a special printing form associated with Indigo Print products. In this form, the cloth is the impression with First Mud then Dyed and then again printed with various images.
So, if you look closely you will find various less visible or Shadow patterns all over the fabrics.
Screen Prints
Although it is not a traditional art of Rajasthan still most of the goods supplied from here are manufactured using Screen Print. This form is cheaper and easy to produce as compared to others. Also, most of the screen print factories are located in the Sanganer Region.
